Gaila betIlley is a Starfleet Cadet and Acting Ensign, specialising in computer programming. Not that she matches most people's ideas of a techie; she's optimistic, gregarious, and easily delighted with life. She can also come across as quite ditzy.

But Gaila is an escaped slave, and if she gets distracted by appreciating the brighter side of things, she's also hard-working, tough, and far more sly than people would expect. She's a survivor. She's also an Orion, a species that people hold a number of stereotypes and assumptions about (mostly sexual), and some days...

She likes coding. Coding requires both precision and artistry, creativity and ruthless practicality. Coding is...

Some days, she prefers coding over people.

So maybe she's not that far from your typical techie after all.


Gaila is a young adult Orion, and so appears similar in external feature to an attractive young human woman just under 5'10. She has the typical green skin of her species, but her lips are gold, her eyes a bright blue, and her mass of curly hair is vibrantly red. Unless she concentrates, Gaila's speech tends to run fast and, thanks to her human foster parents, she has an American accent. She also has a distinctive smell, but generally her pheromones don't have a noticeable effect. For how I'm playing that aspect, see here.
